This handmade shaker kitchen is set within a modern barn conversion and provides a stunning centerpiece for everyday living. 

One of the most popular kitchen trends over the last year has been towards family living and turning kitchens into an everyday living space for the whole family. This kitchen is no exception and is a wonderful example of what can be achieved with expert design and craftsmanship.  

Our client came to us with a brief to create a stunning centerpiece for their new barn conversion. After discussing their requirements and ideas during the initial planning phase, we decided on a traditional shaker style kitchen with a showcase island. 

Our Napier Kitchen, a classically British design, was perfect for this project. With its substantial legs and deep panelled door fronts, it feels as solid as it does traditional.

We set to work designing a large handmade kitchen island to provide plenty of space for the whole family along with ample seating for breakfasts and day-to-day activities. It offers plenty of practicality by housing ample cupboard space along with a single oven to complement the range cooker. 

The island is painted in ‘Hicks Blue’ and reflects another popular trend toward deep blue cabinetry. This creates a striking two-tone colour scheme that contrasts beautifully with the rest of the kitchen cabinets in French Grey Pale. 

To finish it off, we chose a white 20mm marble worktop from Dekton to provide a practical and hard-wearing work surface that will stand the test of time.

Moving on to the rest of the kitchen, we selected a traditional kitchen sink and mixer tap from Blanco which sit perfectly with the country kitchen look and feel. The client chose an Everhot range cooker which we framed in a mantle along with a white tiled splashback. A great example of a practical surface that adds to the timeless and traditional look of the kitchen.

With such a tall ceiling, the client had to think carefully about the right type of lighting. The client chose a row of pendant lights, following the rule of threes with a long drop. A classic choice, they illuminate the island perfectly whilst blending into the rest of the space.   

The kitchen handles are from Crofts & Assinder’s Knightsbridge range and add a touch of classic elegance to the rest of the kitchen doors.

The exposed wooden beams add a touch of warmth to the kitchen and provide an organic accent that is also echoed by the oak bar stools at the kitchen island. It’s little touches like this that make this kitchen work so well.
